Introduction:

Amrinone is also known as indanone and is a pyridine phosphodiesterase 3 inhibitor. This is a drug that may improve outcomes in patients with congestive heart failure. Amrinone has been shown to increase cardiac-induced contractions via high calcium-induced calcium release (CICR). The positive inotropic effects of amrinone are mediated by the selective enhancement of high-gain CICR, which contributes to cardiomyocyte contraction through phosphorylation of cAMP-dependent protein kinase A (PKA) and Ca 2+ Ca Regulatory protein kinase pathway.

Purpose:

It is a cardiotonic drug that enhances myocardial contractility and directly dilates blood vessels.
